How Paid Facebook Ads Work

Facebook Ads for HVAC contractors allow you to target regions (by radius, zip code, or other method) and show ads to Facebook users who are currently in that geographic area. 

Ads show up in a variety of ways; they can show up as posts, reels, or in the sidebar. There is a small indicator near the top of the ad that says “sponsored” so that users know they are seeing an ad. 

Not everyone in the area sees the ad; Facebook will show the ad to as many people as they can based on your budget and based on how many other advertisers are trying to show up to these users. Facebook also tries to show the ad to relevant users, based on their activity and other factors. When someone starts searching HVAC related-questions, for example, Facebook may receive that data from their partners and start showing HVAC related-ads to that person.

There are several things we do to manage your monthly budget and make your HVAC Facebook ads as effective as possible. Here’s what we do in the setup and ongoing management process.

Setup

1) We have an onboarding call to see what makes your company unique so that we know how to make you stand out. We also discuss potential special offers to run, and carve out the service area to run ads in.

2) After our call, we’ll do market research to see what competitors in your area are doing, and what we can do to make your promotions work. This also helps us decide which promotions to use. 

3) We write custom ads for you specifically; we take into account your market, your company, and your specific promotions. In some cases, we create custom graphics for your ads to make a promotion work. Management

1) Facebook Ads for HVAC require ongoing maintenance to ensure that they continuously generate leads. We monitor performance, and if lead cost increases, we make changes to the campaign to get lead cost back down. Changes could include targeting changes, or using different images or ad copy. Campaign checks are done twice per week, and if changes are needed, they are usually done the same day.

2) All checks and changes are recorded on a live Google Doc. This allows you to see exactly what we’re doing to continuously manage and improve your campaign. 

3) To know which campaigns are working best, we’ll monitor your sales (which may include asking you for reports from your CRM) to see which campaigns are delivering results. We will also get your feedback on lead quality. This helps us know which campaigns to keep, which ones to kill, and what changes need to be made for optimal performance. 

4) If the offers we start with eventually stop delivering results, and we’ve tried a few things to improve them already, we’ll help come up with new offers and ads to run in your market and suggest them to you. 

5) We’ll have periodic check-ins and strategy meetings to see how things are going on your end, and where changes need to be made if any. The goal is to test, optimize, and scale your budget once we land on the campaign that works best.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge?

You will have two separate costs. The first cost is ad spend, which Facebook will bill you directly for. I typically recommend a monthly budget of $1000 - $2000 to start. Since the average lead cost is $50 in ad spend per lead, this should get you roughly between 20-40 leads monthly. If you need more or less, we can adjust advertising spend as you need. The second cost is our agency fees, which are only available on a live demo call.

Are these leads good quality?

In the vast majority of cases, yes. To a large extent, however, the amount of leads you book will depend on the amount of effort you put into following up with them.

How long does it take to start working?

When a new client signs up, we start with an onboarding call, and launch 7 days later. Over the past 5 years I’ve run this lead generation program, I’ve never seen it take longer than 2-3 days after launch to start getting leads.

How many people are you working with in my market?

We only serve one contractor in a local market. Even if you are part of a large metro area, we’ll single out an exclusive zone just for you. We still have a relatively small client base at the time of writing, so there is a good chance your market is still available. However, the sooner you reach out the better.

How many contractors are going to get the leads?

Just you. Facebook ads will be shown under your business name, and all the generated leads will be exclusively yours.

What if I'm not on Facebook or don't have a business page?

No problem. It's fairly simple to set up a Facebook business page, so we can do this for you at no extra charge. Also, don't worry if your current Facebook page doesn't have many likes. It doesn't seem to affect the volume or quality of leads at all.

How do you get the leads?

We get leads by running ads on Facebook. Ads are like Facebook posts, except you pay Facebook to show your ad to a specific local area and demographic. If you currently don’t use Facebook, or don’t have a Facebook page, that is no problem. We’ll set up a page on your behalf to run ads from.
